How did this course come about?

As a professional career consultant over the last seven years I’ve continuously studied and assessed the big factors shaping our future so that I could better guide my clients.  Having an appetite for research and a background which includes town planning, facilitating international service projects, and time in over 40 countries my perspective is broader than some.

When I stumbled across "peak oil" in 2004 (documentary on SBS) and kept digging I became concerned about the big picture that emerged. I tried to find solid evidence to reject what I was learning about the six global stresses but couldn't.  Despite all the confident posturing of the economists and industry representatives  I concluded the emperor really did have no clothes. Our economic system was extremely vulnerable, and growing more so each year.

My time working in Russia in the early 90s had impressed upon me how quickly an apparently robust economic system and way of life could go into collapse. And how psychologically and financially devastating it can be for the unprepared.

This course began as an effort to inform my clients and other career counsellors of this big picture.  I wanted to help people connect the dots and prepare for a very different future than what we have been conditioned to expect. This material was first presented at two professional development days for career counsellors in Brisbane, Australia where it caused a stir.

While my conclusions may disturb some people, it's better to be disturbed now, than devastated later! My approach is to base everything on reliable facts and credible information sources. I am not an alarmist or pessimist. I strive for a balanced risk management approach rather than just a “run for the hills” rant.

My hope is that you will view and consider the whole course before passing judgement on its message. And that you’ll take some wise actions which will benefit you while hopefully being positive for your community and the world.

In the coming decades, we will all need to be transition wise.
